Division. Was drafted in US military in Nov 1950 and trained as a
paratrooper. Was in Korea
as part of 187 Airborne. He did another tour in Korea
and in Europe. He was a member of the Airborne
Division Rifle & Pistol Team. He also served in USA
and Japan.
Received Infantry Badge, Master Parachute Badge, Korean Service Medal and
two Bronze Stars, Oak Leaf Cluster National Defense, Army Occupational
Medal and Viet Commendation Medal. Rose to the rank of First Sergeant and
while serving his 2nd tour in Vietnam
in 1967 with the 173rd Airborne he was killed.

raised by grandparents Maurice & Leah Darrigan. He married Elizabeth
Edge; 5 children.

Royal Navy, WW2; #181409. Overseas with 3rd contingent
& first ship HMS Forfar which was torpedoed and sunk in Dec 1940.
Drafted to Singapore
and served on mine sweeper HMS Rhoda. Also served on submarine sweeper HMS
Rhoda and submarine destroyer HMS Dragon Fly until 15 Fe 1942 when she was
bombed and sunk. Picked up by a British ship and landed in East
Sumatra, Dutch West Indies. Fought on
shore under Dutch command. Became POW when overrun by Japanese 17 Mar 1942.
Stan had spent 3 mos in a Dutch hospital. He remained a POW UNTIL RELEASE
Oct 1945. Discharged may 6, 1946.

Royal Navy; #181411. Joined in Sep 39. Overseas with 3rd
contingent. 1st ship HMS Forfar until 2 Dec 1940 when she was torpedoed. Volunteered for Far
East service & was drafted to Singapore.
Ship - HMS Grasshopper, patrolled in Straits of Malacca and south China
Sea. Worked with Royal Naval Police in Singapore
until Japanese invasion then joined HMS Kongwa, a mine layer. 3 days later
ship sunk by Japanese. Ships company made it to Sinkip, small island for 14
days. There they captured a Chinese Junk and sailed to Padang,
Sumatra. Discovered too late that the Japanese had
captured Padang and he was
taken prisoner. POW until 16 Aug
45 when he returned to England.
Discharged Mar 1946.
